About My Clients
I love working with young adults, adults, parents, and families who are committed to therapeutic work and are ready to put in the time and effort to break down barriers and ultimately improve their relationships and their lives. We are all the living legacies of our ancestors traumas and successes. I specialize in unpacking childhood pain and recognizing generational patterns as it is held and experienced by adults both on an individual basis and with the willing members of the family system.
My Background and Approach
Before I became a therapist I made my living as a performer. Performing is where I first found my voice and sense of self, which is what drew me not just to become a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist but to specialize in Drama Therapy, which takes an integrated theoretical approach and uses artistry to shift proximity to our feelings and challenges to facilitate perspective, healing, and creative shifts. I believe in my clients, which I do my best to make sure they feel at all times, but I am unafraid to challenge them when necessary, which I do with a lack of ego and a deep sense of empathy but also an ability to hold boundaries and provide a sense of stability and structure. It is of the utmost importance to me that my clients understand and work towards their own healing, empowerment, wholeness, and ability to obtain more freedom in life. I am a dynamic clinician who attempts to meet each client where they are so that I can become both a challenger and a cheerleader.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I know from experience that my own wholeness and freedom is tied to the liberation and healing of others. As a Drama Therapist, I work relationally, bridging traditional therapeutic practices with elements of theater arts to help my clients find ways to unpack trauma and develop new ways of relating to the world. My own life experience - as a performer, as a woman, as a person of color - deeply influences every aspect of my practice. In addition to bringing my artistic background to my healing work, I also utilize my academic focus in my undergraduate and graduate studies to unpack the ways that systems in our society have influenced the history, development, and current practice of psychology. As a neurodivergent, mixed-race, queer woman, I inherently understand the very real and complex experience of existing in a world that was not designed for all of who I am. I work alongside my clients to acknowledge, understand, and work to move beyond these roadblocks in their own lives.
