About My Clients
I take a holistic, collaborative, and strengths-based approach to counseling. I'm particularly interested in hearing how you have written your story - the parts you have left out and the parts still yet to be written. I believe in empowering my clients by drawing upon their strengths while teaching tools to reduce distress. I'm also trained and experienced in using CPT to help clients identify the impact their traumatic experiences have had on have had on their beliefs and to promote healing.
My Background and Approach
I am a graduate of both North Carolina State University and Palo Alto University. I hold a B.A. in Communication Studies and a M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I'm a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) in the state of North Carolina, as well as a Resident in Counseling in the state of Virginia. I started my counseling journey with the YWCA of South Hampton Roads, working with clients healing from interpersonal violence, sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse, and complex trauma. My professional experience also includes working with military families, veterans, and parents of young children. I'm also passionate about working with couples struggling with trust and intimacy concerns.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in a holistic, collaborative, and strengths-based approach to counseling that attends to the whole person – body, mind, and spirit. I wholeheartedly believe that you are the expert on your own life and have within you the power to heal; I see myself as a partner in your journey. Through a collaborative and supportive environment, we will work together to achieve your therapy goals. My clients find me to be non-judgmental, warm and easy-going while gently challenging them to grow. You have the power to write the next chapter, and I look forward to walking alongside you in doing that.
