About My Clients
I enjoy working with motivated adults who are seeking to build a meaningful life and learn effective ways to cope with difficult emotions and stressors. I predominantly support clients with mood and anxiety conditions as well as those who are interested in improving their quality of life. Through the use of practical cognitive and behavioral skills, clients can improve self-awareness, navigate unwanted thoughts and feelings, change unhelpful behaviors, and make progress toward life goals.
My Background and Approach
My counseling style is interactive, compassionate, nonjudgmental, and action oriented. I have received training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP), and other mindfulness-based practices. I approach treatment primarily from a DBT and ACT framework, which incorporates strategies for both change and acceptance. These tools help clients make space for discomfort, influence patterns of thoughts and emotions, clarify personal values, change unhelpful behaviors, develop self-compassion, and live life intentionally. I strive to create a relaxed and safe atmosphere for clients to be their authentic self and open up to the therapeutic process. My ultimate goal is to help clients navigate challenges skillfully and create the life they want to live.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe we are all capable of building a meaningful life if we have the right tools and support. Everyone has the capacity for growth and change at any stage in their life. It is human to be imperfect and to experience pain. If we can learn to drop our struggle against pain, embrace the present moment as it is, and commit to actions guided by our values - we can all live fulfilling lives. Although therapy can inevitably be uncomfortable and painful at times, I also believe it can be a motivating and empowering experience. I often incorporate humor throughout the therapeutic process when appropriate as a reminder that we can find joy and light even as we face painful challenges. While harsh judgments and hopelessness can keep us stuck in suffering, willingness and self-compassion can guide us toward acceptance and change.
