About My Clients
My goal through therapy is to empower and motivate the client to make positive changes towards their goals. While the initial focus of therapy is on symptom relief; the ultimate goal is a deeper understanding of who you are and why you do the things you do. I believe the basis of any good therapy experience lies in the quality of the relationship between the therapist and the client. Once that is established, good work can be done.
My Background and Approach
I have worked in a variety of mental health settings and levels including crisis, inpatient and outpatient. I have strong experience working with addiction and emotional eating. I have also worked with various ages and conditions including anxiety, depression, marital issues, substance abuse, gerontology issues, and eating disorders. I am a graduate of Rutgers University receiving my Masters in Social Work and a Bachelors in Psychology/Sociology. In addition, I attended Rutgers School of Social Work and received my Masters in Social Work. I have my license in Clinical Social Work from the State of New Jersey.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I have learned personally the therapeutic value that can come from talking to someone. That is what drove my passion to help others. It can be like walking into a room with papers thrown everywhere and having the aid of someone helping you start to pick them up and organize them in the rightful place. I believe it is invaluable to have an unbiased space the client can come and work through whatever is bothering them without feeling judged or ridiculed. Psychotherapy provides such a rich opportunity for growth and learning, helping persons to recover from the aftermaths of trauma, abuse and loss, meet the hardships of their lives and thrive. My approach is very Solution-Focused involving Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, & Mindfulness.
