About My Clients
Do you sometimes feel like you have no idea why you do the things you do? For all your accolades and admirable qualities sometimes you surprise yourself in how you treat your spouse, your kids, or a friend? When someone asks why you might only be able to say, “I don’t know.” The people I work with are vibrant and creative, yet tend to overthink, get overwhelmed and often overindulge. Substance misuse and addiction don’t have to be part of your story but I specialize in that area too.
My Background and Approach
I'm a dually-licensed therapist: a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Addiction Counselor. I've worked hard in attaining additional trainings to make myself well-rounded in substance and/or behavior addictions, trauma, co-occurring disorders and couples therapy. Trainings and techniques are great, but ultimately therapy works when the relationship does. My goal is to help you feel as comfortable as possible working with me that you can bring it all. If you're pragmatic, I lean towards providing tangible, action-oriented treatment to practice on your own. Some may need therapy to process their thoughts and feelings where they change they seek can be found within themselves. I like collaborating throughout the process, I also like gently challenging you when it seems appropriate. Ultimately, how nice is it to have someone who wants to deeply listen, dig into what you're saying and explore your story with you? Therapy is awesome.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I cannot ignore the fact that the social compact of America is broken and so many people are hurting because they can't see themselves moving upward. I cannot deny the fact that rampant capitalism is destroying the human spirit. Sometimes, therapy is a space to process these sorts of things that are too big to deal with as an individual. For a lot of folks I've worked with, I wish I could just write them a check to restore hope. The system is busted and lots of folks are scared. I'm not doom and gloom about this, but it's something that is always present in my conceptualization of what brings you to therapy.
