About My Clients
I work with adolescents that struggle with trauma, depression, self-harm and suicidal thoughts, impulsivity, anxiety, and more. I personally have struggled with my own mental health issues so I know it’s possible to get to the other side. I use this hope with teens because they can often feel discouraged. My experiences allow me to fight for my clients. Therapy can be full of ups and downs, especially with teenagers. I welcome these highs and lows and use them for growth and to build resiliency.
My Background and Approach
My approach is to build rapport with my client and use our therapeutic relationship as a tool for modeling healthy relationships, boundaries, communication, respect, and honesty. I then couple this with practical skills and modalities such as CBT and DBT. I teach skills such as impulse control, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, anger management, and conflict resolution. This allows emotional healing to happen adjacent to practical, applicable skills that result in evident change. I also seek to increase my clients insight into their motivations for their decisions, what their emotions mean, and why they behave in certain ways. The therapeutic relationship heals emotional wounds and identifies areas for growth, while applicable skills make use of insight to translate over to change. My background consists of working at a residential treatment center for adolescents with severe mental health issues. Here, my passion for helping teenagers heal and grow has deeply strengthened.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe mental health is the biggest factor of life fulfillment. Physical health and family are important as well but sick people are still content and people that have lost family are still joyous. But how come healthy people are depressed and people surrounded by loved ones are lonely? I believe mental health is crucial for enjoying life and that is why I work so hard to help my clients: I want them to have freedom, joy, peace, and a life lived to their fullest. I also believe in confidentiality with my client while still integrating the family. I will aim to make every 4th session a family session if the client and family agree to it. I also provide updates that don’t violate HIPPA to the parents. I believe that to best help an adolescent, the family has to be involved. I also believe in providing weekly therapy assignments to my clients to help them apply and practice skills outside of the therapy office and in real life. This helps my client be intentional with their therapy.
