About My Clients

I specialize in counseling services that help clients heal from anxiety, eating disorders, and trauma. I’ve found my clients are ready to dig deep whether or not they’ve been in therapy before. Underneath the negative self-talk, they are smart, courageous, resilient, and ready to feel joy and connection. They're tired of restricting, rules about what's good and bad to eat, and the discomfort they feel when they look in the mirror. They're ready for more joy and freedom in life.

My Background and Approach

I have a dual master’s degree in counseling from UNC-Greensboro and am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina. I have additional training with one of the original creators of Intuitive Eating to be an Intuitive Eating Certified Counselor. I'm also a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner which means I help people resolve trauma in their nervous systems. Our sessions will explore current behaviors and thoughts that aren't working and we'll get into the roots to resolve the stuff that triggers those old behaviors. I'll teach you about the reactions in your body that sabotage efforts to change your thinking so you can learn how to deal with anxiety, shame, and discomfort in your body. I get this work because I've been there AND got to the other side. I'm down-to-earth with a good bullshit meter and sense of humor so therapy doesn't feel so heavy all the time. You can count on respect, accountability and collaboration in our sessions. Relief is possible!

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

My view of mental health issues is that they're adaptive strategies to deal with a world that is harsh and overwhelming at times. Eating disorders, anxiety, depression, panic, perfectionism, and even sensory issues are symptoms of underlying nervous system dysregulation. The more I've come to learn about this, the more I've learned about myself and my clients. I was an anxious kid with undiagnosed OCD which later morphed into an eating disorder. It kept me from feeling safe with the people I cared about but was a predictable shelter from the chaos in my mind and life. What I've learned is the more we can do to help our bodies and minds feel safety, the more we can live an embodied, connected life. It's not easy, but it's doable. Beyond the therapy world, I'm a dog mom to two pups, Lucy and Teddy. I'm a proud bisexual in a hetero-seeming relationship. I love cooking, antiquing, international travel, clean countertops, and am an aspiring surfer.
