At the heart of many issues is anxiety and fear. Fear of rejection, of ridicule, of failure, fear of the unknown, fear of incompetence. On the one hand, it's a natural condition, and can be productive, but I like to discuss at what point it crosses the line into unproductive and unhelpful. Together, we'll discuss how anxiety is hindering you and put together some goals to help decrease it.

If I ask 10 different people what "depression" means to them, I will get 10 different answers ranging from "meh" to "suicidal". It's a big word, with big impact. We'll discuss your history with depression, your specific symptoms, and consider what might be adding to your burden. Then we'll put together some ideas about how to help you, whether it's medication, mindfulness, or making other life changes, big and small, that can increase your sense of empowerment and contentment.

Not every person who seeks therapy is looking to heal trauma or process heavy emotions. Sometimes they are looking for a fresh set of eyes and ears on a problem that's been bothering them, and I love providing that in a way that focuses on goals, obstacles, and solutions.

In treating anxiety and depression, we often encounter a lot of cognitive distortions, and I enjoy pointing them out to clients and reminding them that feelings aren't facts! I also believe that changing the way you interpret a situation can alter the way you react to that situation, and set a more positive tone to your day.

I've worked in substance abuse settings for 4 years and have brought my humorous, confrontational style to both individual and group therapy settings.
