About My Clients
Are you exhausted by anxiety or panic attacks? Are racing thoughts keeping you up at night? Or maybe you experienced a traumatic event (or are in the middle of it now) and can't seem to move forward. If you are questioning your alcohol or drug use or desire to cut back, I can help. If this sounds like you, I believe we may be a good therapeutic fit. I use evidence based practices and psychoeducation to find the right combination of coping strategies and counseling techniques to best support you.
My Background and Approach
I hold associate licensure in both mental health and substance use in the state of North Carolina. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I also utilize Motivational Interviewing. What does this mean for my clients? It means that I have special training in trauma and the negative beliefs we hold about ourselves. I have extensive training and experience with alcohol dependence. In my sessions, I have a conversation with clients to determine what is causing distress. I use techniques from EMDR (not everyone is appropriate for the full protocol) to identify patterns in behavior, relationships, beliefs, etc. I also teach many mindfulness techniques and other exercises and resources to be used outside of counseling sessions.
