My Background and Approach
Karissa originally attended Westmont College in beautiful Santa Barbara, and began her B.S. in Psychology, then transferred to Montreat College, in the Appalachian hills of North Carolina, graduating Cum Laude with a B.S. in Music Therapy, and a double minor in Psychology and Music Business. She obtained her M.A. in Clinical Counseling from Concordia University Irvine, through Dr. Townsend’s Institute for Leadership and Counseling. She also has training and experience in Equine Therapy, and is a Certified Equine-Assisted Practitioner through EAGALA. She is now pursuing her doctorate, and PhD in Integrative Psychiatric Medicine, in hopes to better serve those who suffer with chronic illness, auto-immune issues, and the gap between our physical and mental health that is often not adequately addressed, misdiagnosed, or overlooked entirely in traditional Western Medicine practices. She has a therapy dog & faithful sidekick, named Miss Sparrow- she is 6lbs of pure Shih tzu love!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I love the endless mystery of the 'unseen' realm. I am well-versed in Christianity, as well as ministry & leadership pressures in the Western Church. I was raised with a very "missional," international family, who helped to shape & expand my theological understandings beyond the traditional four walls of the Church. I believe that God is Love, & His mercy outweighs any of our shortcomings. God loves to show up as the 'Wonderful Counselor' wherever you may be in your life journey--from Agnostic, to a full-gospel revivalist or missionary, or a spiritual seeker of Light and Truth with questions or hurts from imperfect people & Churches. I welcome all the levels of faith, and questions, and will enjoy the mysteries we may find along the way as we seek answers together to the 'unseen' and 'unknown' realm that is all around us! "...And the government shall be upon His shoulder, And His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."(Isaiah 9:6)
