My Background and Approach
Ms Slaton holds master degrees in Addiction Counseling and Professional Counseling. She has been trained in a multitude of therapies and uses an eclectic approach, choosing the best therapy for each client according to their individual circumstances. Her specialties are in the areas of abuse, trauma, anxiety, and addictions. Her goal is to collaborate with the client to give them the tools and resources to cope with their negative or distressing thoughts and feelings and learn how to prevent these attacks from continuing.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that everyone has experienced something traumatic in their life, something that may have resulted in negative thoughts, feelings, or actions. These learned behaviors are our body's way of coping with this trauma and we have to teach it a better way to respond. As a child, I experienced abuse and trauma and developed negative thoughts and actions. Through my own therapeutic journey, I learned how to change these negative thoughts and actions, move past the hurt and be free from the control my past had on me. I have family and friends from all walks of life and have learned to never judge a book by its cover. Most sports are not my thing but I do enjoy a good college football game, some professional baseball games, and NASCAR racing.
