About My Clients
Many of my clients have experienced child abuse which left them vulnerable to difficult relationships in adulthood- for example, partners with Narcissistic, Borderline or Psychopathic features. Some are not sure whether they are in safe, caring relationships with their own parents. Others are worried about becoming parents and repeating difficult parent child interactions. Some are adjusting to being in college, recovering from a violent incident, or mourning the loss of a loved one.
My Background and Approach
I have over 20 years of clinical background with survivors of interpersonal violence, co- dependency, process addictions (spending, cutting, sexual acting out) and loss. I have experience using the creative arts, including drama, to activate the healing process. I also utilize CBT, Emotion Focused Therapy and Attachment Theory in my work. I use humor and focus on client strengths/ creativity because people are much more than the sum of their problems. We each contain the seeds of our own healing. but sometimes need another person to bring these to our attention.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in the inner strengths of my clients. While I value insight, I believe it is often important to use short term coping skills and self soothing methods to address stress in the present. I believe in the inherent dignity and entitlement to respect, of all people.
