About My Clients
Does your life feel as if it has become a daily struggle? Have you recently experienced difficult life events such as a major loss or the transition to a new phase of your life that seems scary or overwhelming? Maybe you’re feeling "stuck" and can’t seem to move forward. And you may find yourself turning to alcohol or other mood-altering substances to cope with these stresses in your life. I understand your struggle and will help you work through your pain and learn healthy tools to cope.
My Background and Approach
After earning my master’s degree in counseling, I spent the first years of my career in a school setting, working with children and families. Over the past four years, I have worked as a clinician in an outpatient program for women who struggle with substance use and mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, and codependency. I have supported these women as they work through difficult issues such as grief and loss, separation from their children, and the stigma of addiction. My fundamental approach is person-centered and trauma-informed, and I draw from principles of CBT and DBT and from the perspective of helping you build resilience, the ability to withstand adversity and bounce back from setbacks and distressing life events. Being resilient does not mean that you never experience stress or emotional pain: true resilience comes from working through emotional pain and using healthy tools to cope. I will partner with you to create the resilient life you were meant to live.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a therapist, I believe in your power to discover your own Truths and to find meaning in even the most difficult circumstances. I also believe in the power of humor to heal and believe laughter truly is medicine. I also believe in the power of connection to provide comfort and build resilience. One of the connections that is a current area of study and hope to incorporate in my practice in the near future is equine-assisted therapy, or using horses to help clients heal. I have been an animal-lover all of my life and volunteer with a fostering program at the local shelter.
