About My Clients
You knew adolescence was going to be a difficult time for you and your child, but you didn’t know was exactly how difficult. Your teen, tween, or preteen is becoming more detached than you expected, maybe angry, restless, or someone completely different—so now you’re left searching for answers about what’s really going on with your child. And how do you help them without knowing how they feel, what they think, and the root of their distress? This is why I’m here: to help both you and your child.
My Background and Approach
Most people think I’m an art teacher and in a sense, I guess they’d be right. Through therapeutic practices I assist teaching the art of mental healing to people who feel broken, misunderstood, restless, and any other vividly intense feeling words you can think of. I have experience working with teens with emotional and behavioral diagnoses; most commonly those struggling with anxiety, depression, and ADHD. In addition to individual work, I have worked facilitating groups of teenage girls navigating challenges that present during adolescence, teen boys preparing for life post-high school, and mixed gender groups focused on transitional skills. I am not restricted to any particular approach to therapy aside from the fact that it is a joint process you and I go through together, at your own pace.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Put simply: I believe in equality. My special interests include working with members of oppressed populations such as racial minorities, and the LGBTQ+ community. My identity is buried under many layers of oppression, which affect my daily life and the same is true for clients. This, and a host of other variables can contribute to psychological distress—which I hope to help alleviate. Knowing about your mental health and ways to promote mentally healthy activity is extremely important to a person’s overall wellbeing. Additionally, with regards to treatment: I believe each person to be an individual and that methods have to adapt to best suit client needs. Often people avoid therapy with the belief that it will not help them, but I believe the amount and type of help one needs varies. Matching yourself with a therapist that fits your needs, and that you feel connected with is very important.
