About My Clients
Some clients feel they struggle to articulate themselves and their needs to others. Some have a hard time feeling comfortable or safe, even when surrounded by genuine loved ones. Some struggle to pinpoint the source of their trauma because there isn't just one, and it's hard to know if they should even call it trauma. Some feel they understand themselves very well, but don't know what to do with their insight. And some need a place to express without being told to "calm down".
My Background and Approach
I work from a place of developing a sense of safety, understanding, and self-compassion first to give us room to dig into the hard things. We don't just understand what we're experiencing, we feel it in a way that's genuine and releases whatever might be stuck or unapproachable. I use a blend of techniques, most of which I can teach you to use yourself and will encourage you to do so. Our work together will head towards a place where you're better able to rely on yourself and still ask for help when you need it. You'll get to know parts of yourself that felt out of touch or that you didn't know were there. You'll gain a better understanding of why certain things make you feel and act a certain way. Beyond that, you'll get to see what you can do differently. I have been trained in psychodynamic and existential approaches, as well as ERP and CBIT. I am IFS and DBT-informed and frequently use both with clients. I also have training and experience working with FND.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that people aren't meant to process things alone. Regardless of approach or modality, a therapist's job is to be someone who can walk through your journey with you. I am open about my own identities as trans, autistic, polyamorous, and a lesbian because I think there is value in clients knowing how much I can relate to their experiences. I have had my own experiences with trauma and dissociation, and offer help in the hope that what helped me heal can also help you. I love when I can laugh and celebrate with my clients, and when we can be in the pain together. I believe the most important thing I can do for any client is give them a time, space, and person where they don't feel lonely.
