Kalen Zeiger PhD, LMFT, CCTP, CFTP

I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and Certified Family Trauma Professional (CFTP) with training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I help clients like you manage and process trauma so you can move forward.

I have experience working with the LGBTQ+ population and previously served as a therapist, a group facilitator, and as the Associate Clinic Director for the LGBTQ Counseling Clinic at the University of Iowa. I provide queer-affirming mental health care and support for individuals, couples, parents, and families like yours who are often navigating confusing and less than accepting social and care scenarios.

I have experience working with gender minorities and previously served as a therapist, a group facilitator, and as the Associate Clinic Director for the LGBTQ Counseling Clinic at the University of Iowa. I provide gender-affirming mental health care and WPATH psychosocial assessments and letters of support.

I have experience working with clients in-house at a domestic violence shelter. DV shelters see high turn-over, leading to a need for brief but effective therapeutic intervention. When brief therapy is needed or desired, client mental health may be better served by focusing on practical, solution-focused goals. If brief therapy is something that you are looking for, I have the experience to provide it.

Narrative therapy is the foundational therapeutic model for my clinical practice. I am here to listen to your story and your experiences. And I recognize that sometimes our narratives get hijacked by both our own internal monsters (worries, fears, trauma) and by external monsters (intergenerational trauma, injustice and oppression, other systemic barriers). I am here to work with you as you unjack your narrative and move forward with the life story that you want.

EMDR is a powerful tool in therapy for processing and resolving trauma. I have been trained in EMDR protocols and processing trauma using EMDR.
