My Background and Approach

I specialize in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) & assessment (diagnostic & testing) services. When working with psychotherapy clients, I use focused, collaborative, time-limited CBT to help clients change thoughts that are getting in the way of optimal functioning. CBT helps people deal with the overly negative mistakes in thinking in a therapeutic environment. Overly negative thoughts serve to maintain of mental health issues, PTSD, depression, anxiety, or any number of issues. Most “symptoms” people suffer from are evidence of coping strategies that are no longer helpful. I help clients move toward healthier behaviors and more balanced thoughts. My psychological, neuropsychological and psychoeducational evaluations are comprehensive and help client obtain needed accommodations and to determine the appropriate treatment plan.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I use a CBT model that incorporates feminist theory, which holds that the personal is political and vice versa. I acknowledge the power dynamics present in interpersonal relationships and seek to make therapy collaborative and connected. I accept that social forces that impact people like racism, sexism, homophobia and hetrosexism. Understanding the social context is integral to my application of CBT. CBT is an evidence-based form of psychotherapy that helps clients become mindful of the way they talk to themselves, which allows people to change the way they are acting and feeling. I know first hand that a negative internal voice holds people back, but when we apply a more logical and balanced voice, we can arrive at more accurate and helpful conclusions. Using appraisals based on logic and reasonable thinking helps to change behavior and reduce negative emotions, and helps people thrive. My goal is to teach you to be your own great cognitive-behavioral therapist!
