About My Clients
I help rebuild and reunify individuals and families by teaching coping skills and better communication skills to children ages 3-18, adults, and families. I use different therapeutic interventions to meet the needs of my clients and achieve results. I help children and adults learn how to understand, control, and share their emotions appropriately, and make better choices.
My Background and Approach
In addition to talk therapy with adults and adolescents, I also use play therapy with children who have a hard time appropriately expressing their feelings and experiences. I specialize in family therapy, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, race, ethnicity, and cultural identity issues and/or trauma, working with children and adolescents with behavioral challenges, and parenting. I provide clients with a safe, comfortable, and non-judgmental environment, to openly talk about their thoughts and feelings. I take an open-minded approach to client wellness and consider the client's work life, family traditions, cultural, and spiritual beliefs. I provide support for developing a new way of seeing and moving through life.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am a second-generation American, born in New York City to immigrant parents from Trinidad and Tobago. I specialize in working with children ages 3-18, adults, and families. I am eclectic in my approach, using play therapy and many different therapeutic interventions to meet the needs of my clients. I also specialize in working with children and adolescents with behavioral challenges, as well as, parenting support and training. I am also passionate about helping people with ethnic, cultural, and racial identity issues, as well as moms adjusting to motherhood. I am very active in my community for racial and social justice. I have had the unique opportunity to practice in a wide variety of settings and cultures. I draw from this background, as I carefully tailor my approach to each individual client. I assess each client’s specific goals, strengths, and challenges, and together, develop an appropriate treatment plan.
