These words have been the marinade for my practice through much of my career and they illustrate more beautifully than I can the spirit of how I can be of service to you. If you find that you are disconnected I can hold your connection, your "smile", for you and come alongside you until you are able to reclaim it.
My Background and Approach
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy training completely transformed my practice and filled in the large gaps left by formal training. 250+ hours over 3 years, which in practical terms is more than 4 times the duration of my post-graduate-level courses. SP takes our exiled body and nervous system and places it back in its rightful place in the conversation. We are not floating heads with an afterthought as a body. As Resmaa Menakem puts it, "logic can’t even get its shoes on before the body is starting to protect itself." In my experience, the elevation of thoughts and our mind as the crown of existence, at the neglect of our bodies and our spirits, is one of the main reasons why traditional "talk therapy" does not work for so many. We intuitively know, either explicitly or implicitly, that a subtle (sometimes not so subtle) violence is occurring through the neglect of our bodies and nervous systems -- like when a server only talks to the male in a cis-gendered heterosexual couple at dinner.
