The goal of all therapeutic approaches is to help you understand why you feel the way you feel, what your triggers are, and how you might change your reaction to them.
“Talk therapy” will be used to help you understand and work through the issues that are impacting your life in negative ways. The therapist's role is to listen, provide feedback, and work with you to develop strategies to cope.
