About My Clients
I enjoy working collaboratively with women, as they seek to flourish in their relationships, and not allow anxiety to drive their lives. I work with clients of all faith backgrounds, but I'm particularly passionate about helping those who've grown up in Christianity toss toxic positivity and legalistic viewpoints aside and live authentically in their relationships with God and others, even with anxiety and difficult feelings present.
My Background and Approach
I'm trained in ACT, an evidenced-based treatment for anxiety, and I'm trained in an attachment-based model that helps single people develop healthy romantic relationships. My counseling degree is from a theological seminary where I learned how to integrate biblical teaching with clinical knowledge & evidenced-based approaches. I don't believe that we will ever truly reach a state where we are NOT anxious. We know there are plenty of scary things in the world and our brain likes us to be prepared, so sometimes it tells us threats are present when they're not. I help my clients change their relationship to their anxiety by acknowledging its presence and its function, but not let the anxiety rule their lives. As women who grew up in purity culture, we were often taught how not to BE the problem in relationships without learning how to LOOK for problems in relationships.I help single women consider the dating relationship they’re in and to think about what they value in a longterm partner
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that we are all capable of growth and change, and that often times, our anxiety is an over functioning defense mechanism that we learned from a young age would keep us safe. I was raised in a Christian home, and I know that emotions in Christian circles can often be villainized or viewed as a lack of trust in God. I believe that God gave us emotions for a reason, and that fully allowing all of our emotional experiences to exist actually draw us closer to Him. He is not scared by our emotions, and therefore, we should not be afraid to experience them as we pursue our relationship with Him. I'm a mom of two, and I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, traveling, a good brunch, and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals! I'm so thankful for the work I get to do with my wonderful clients, and I feel honored to be entrusted with their stories.
