About My Clients
I see every client as a new story unfolding before me, and my greatest desire is that you feel seen and heard by me.
My Background and Approach
My therapeutic orientation is existential and feminist and my interests center on issues related to social justice, intimate partner violence, religious trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and disordered eating. I draw from an eclectic array of techniques such as dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness-based stress reduction. I have additional training in experiential play therapy. I have completed the Gottman Institute’s Level 2 Training and use methods based on Gottman’s 40 years of research. I have been fully trained in EMDR therapy through the Maiberger Institute and often incorporate somatic practices rooted in polyvagal theory with clients. I am certified through the National Board of Certified Counselors.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I took a twenty-year break between my undergraduate and graduate degrees to stay home and raise four children. During this time, I invested in my family and local community, and in 2018 finally realized a lifelong dream of returning to school. I am now a Licensed Professional Counselor (Colorado LPC.0019027 and Missouri LPC 2023022201) with a master's in clinical mental health counseling. I know the unique pressures women face to be all things to all people, and I continue to find ways to balance the various demands of my own life. Anxiety has been with me for as long as I can remember, and it was a good therapist who helped me begin to understand and manage it. He helped me find my voice and now I hope to help others do the same. In my spare time, I love to cook, bake, write, garden, and move my body in ways that bring me joy. I am wholly devoted to books and orange cats and get hooked on quirky TV shows.
