About My Clients
My clients typically have AD/HD, autism and/or anxiety in the family system. I treat complex challenges where individuals are concerned about finding relief from negative symptoms and improving relationships. Often this comes with some education on a diagnosis and new found compassion for the self and others. My clients typically search for relief in romantic and family relationships as well as workplace and school relationships. I work with kids that don't fit the regular parenting manuals.
My Background and Approach
My background in mental health began in the backyard of NASA. I've always been around smart quirky people and I have learned to embrace all that comes with it. Today I enjoy helping people of all ages understand how they fit into the world. Often relationships are strained by failure to understand why people think and behave the way they do. Clients regularly comment they understand how to communicate more effectively and they feel understood by the people around them at the completion of therapy. My key areas of practice include autism, AD/HD and anxiety. From those diagnoses, clients sometimes have challenges at school and work. Teletherapy: Many people can join online from various locations in family therapy. No one has to sit still or stare at me on the screen! I am able to collaborate with school systems and others working with therapeutic settings such as boarding schools and hospitals.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I LOVE education. I think most people are misunderstood to some degree and a lot can be accomplished with education. Sometimes this begins with the person making sense of their own thoughts and actions from an environmental and biological viewpoint. I think of myself as a guide helping people uncover aha moments that lead to behavior congruent with personal authenticity. I am a professor of graduate students and I supervise individuals who are earning their licenses in mental health. I really thrive watching people in a state of becoming. I have volunteered with the Red Cross for almost 15 years in disaster mental health. Living in the zones of hurricanes and tornadoes makes this a natural thread for me. I really value walking along side people when pain is present. Accelerated Resolution Therapy is a trauma treatment technique I can use online.
