About My Clients
I work with adults and young adults who are experiencing overwhelm, intrusive/unwanted thoughts, repetitive behaviors, worry, self-doubt, perfectionism and stress due to life transitions. Many of my clients are parents of young children and find that they need support to navigate the challenges of parenting. I also have many adults in my practice who are working to find balance in their close relationships and making changes toward a more fulfilling life.
My Background and Approach
Prior to becoming a therapist, I earned an undergraduate degree in Family Studies and worked as a social worker with a primary concentration in the perinatal years: parenting education, early childhood, and direct labor support (as a birth doula). I wanted to work more personally with adults via psychotherapy and better understand the underlying issues that drive human behavior. So I pursued a masters in clinical social work at Boston University starting in 2013. As a therapist I am down-to-earth, very inquisitive and insightful. Clients tell me that they appreciate my warmth and collaborative style. I use evidence-based techniques, but always with flexibility. I am a visual learner/processor and so I incorporate visual tools into my practice to enhance learning and insight.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
One of my guiding principles as a therapist is to approach this work from a collaborative (rather than an authoritative) stance. I am very aware of the power dynamics involved in therapy and it is deeply important to me that I NEVER convey the idea that I am an expert in your life. I intentionally choose not to use the word "expert," even in areas where I have extensive training. I offer insights, invite reflection and share the knowledge I have gained both from personal experience and training. Then you can decide what resonates with you. You will know! It is also important to me that we maintain a professional relationship and that I keep my own personal issues in check. For this reason you will not hear me talk a lot about my personal life, unless I find that sharing something in a general way could be helpful for you. My goal is always to keep the focus on you and your needs.
