About My Clients
I feel there is no right or wrong time in life to start therapy. Clients contact me because they have been feeling overwhelmed, down, or just not how they’re used to feeling. It may be hard to find enjoyment in life, with each day feeling like going-through-the-motions. My clients might have gone through a trauma, a loss, or other stress that left them feeling stuck in distress. They may be facing a new, big life change, and wanting to know how to cope.
My Background and Approach
My therapeutic approach is integrative and draws from psychodynamic, CBT, and humanist work. I will ask you questions about your life, past and present, what helps you to feel fulfilled, and what makes you you. We'll talk about what you'd like to get out of therapy. I think it's awesome when clients are willing talk about the things that they don't want to talk about, because that is brave, and we can work with that to help you to struggle less. Progress with my clients, looks like having greater confidence in themselves and their capabilities, to quiet the inner critic, and participate in life in ways that are meaningful to them.
Why I Became a Therapist
I've provided therapy in the hospital setting for most of my career, and this has shaped my perspective that with the right help, and openness to it, crises can be mastered, and people have strengths they might not even know of. Working with adults of all ages affirms my belief that making change is always possible if it’s something that you want. Listening for my clients’ core values in session leads me to be a collaborative therapist, who believes you are the expert on yourself. I believe people ultimately have a desire to be understood and cared for, and that the best place this can start is within oneself.
