I was trained in EMDR through EMDRIA. EMDR is based on the idea that negative or maladaptive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors result from unprocessed memories. EMDR does not require an in-depth discussion of these events. Instead, it jump-starts the body's natural ability to process and heal by using bilateral stimulation to connect the rational thinking brain (pre-frontal cortex) with the emotional brain (limbic) and reprocess memories in the safety of the present moment.

We each have our own stories to tell. Sometimes, we can be unreliable narrators, and our stories need to be reauthored and edited. By separating the problem from ourselves and reclaiming our story, we can shift our perspective and choose which direction or opportunity we want to take next. That's where healing can begin.

CBT explores the connections between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. By first identifying negative thought patterns and then exploring how our thoughts interact with our feelings and behaviors, we can then create strategies that will shift how we think, feel, and respond which will allow us to connect more authentically with ourselves and others.

There are certain life experiences that can make it incredibly challenging to move forward. We may feel overwhelmed and lonely, and sometimes we just need some extra support. This can be a daunting process, so I'm glad you're reaching out. I used evidence-based approaches like EMDR to reprocess life experiences and integrate these memories more adaptively. It aims to alleviate symptoms by facilitating the brain's natural ability to heal and reorganize distressing memories.
