About My Clients
My clients are typically new professionals trying to navigate new roles and transitions while often raising a family, or established professionals with existential questions about meaning, freedom, and sometimes isolation. My clients are willing to collaborate in the counseling relationship and try suggested techniques or process new reflections between sessions. Having a deeper awareness of oneself is not always easy but it can be rewarding.
My Background and Approach
My clinical background includes residential treatment with adolescents, community practice working with therapeutic day treatment providers, and social workers, and years of private practice working with adults, adolescents, and couples. My education and professional memberships reflect an understanding of human sexuality including expression, identity, and orientation. This includes an understanding of systems and how they impact an individuals choices. My overall counseling approach is commonsense. I try to meet you where you are and ask questions about your past to get a better understanding of patterns, goals, and expectations. Specific theories include cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused, with some additional training in internal family systems. I have a genuine curisoity will ask open-ended questions but encourage you to be honest and contribute to sessions as well.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Change is possible and sometimes the most impactful changes need not be grandiose. Attempts to better understand yourself, how to relate to others, and learning different coping skills or healthy habits that work for your lifestyle can go a long way. Therapy can be longer or shorter depending on your goals and resources. I have realistic expectations about therapy and instead of forcing anything I belief bearing witness within an honest professional realtionship can bring lasting results rather the therapy is long term or short term.
