CBT is based on the evidence-based theory that thoughts affect feelings and then feelings affect how you behave. Therefore, the first place to begin making a change in your life, is with your thoughts. CBT provides specific interventions and exercises that help you challenge your thoughts as well as recognize your unhelpful thoughts - and replace them with positive and productive thoughts.
ACT is based in Cognitive Behavioral but has a different "twist". Instead of working to change your thoughts, ACT focuses on accepting and learning to cope with the negative and sometimes, intrusive thought we all experience. It also guides you to work towards living the purpose driven life you desire and have always hoped for.
Exposure Response Prevention therapy is the "gold standard" for treating Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, phobias, and similar anxiety disorders. There are a limited number of therapists in Iowa who provide this specialized therapy, but it is THE MOST EFFECTIVE therapy for OCD!
Anxiety is often experienced as a component of depression, but it can also be a singular diagnosis. Anxiety usually responds well using CBT, but sometimes needs specialized treatment when it presents as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. OCD behaviors and thoughts can be extremely distressing and disruptive to a persons’ mental health. Exposure Response Treatment is a very effective protocol I have used to help clients free themselves from the chains of OCD.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the best treatment for depression according to all research. This approach focuses on changing our thoughts in order to change our feelings and thus changing our behaviors. I have extensive experience and training using this treatment to help individuals improve their moods and become happier with their lives.
I am trained in an evidence based treatment called CBT-I. This protocol is based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and is shown to be very effective in treating insomnia.
