About My Clients
Each of us deserves a full life aligned with our values, and we each have a different path to get there. I work with clients hoping to draw on their strengths to move past stressors and barriers so that they can create positive change. Whether you are working through trauma, stress, parenting challenges or something else entirely, I know that we can build a strong relationship and individualized support plan that lays the foundation for you to transition from surviving to thriving.
My Background and Approach
Everyone has times in their life when they are seeking deeper meaning, self-acceptance, or simply someone to walk with them through a challenging period. Believing that you are the expert of your own experience, I use my training to support you in making sense of and working through whatever brings you to therapy. I also have an array of tools I can share that will help you to be your best self. I have been working with families on Chicago's South Side for five years, providing school-based mental health support and wraparound services for young people ages three to twenty-one. Combining cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing, I tailor my approach to fit each client's unique needs. I operate through a social justice lens that emphasizes community and acknowledges the structures that create real barriers in people's lives, helping clients to draw from their strengths and create change for themselves.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am deeply passionate about anti-racism and anti-oppressive practices. I have dedicated my career to supporting children, adolescents and families dealing with trauma in communities with little access to mental health care. In this work, I have encountered so many helping professionals struggling with burnout, compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma. I believe it is vital to equip them with the self-care and emotional/mental wellness tools they need to continue their important work. I also would like to see a more diverse field, and thus support aspiring Black therapists in achieving licensure and private practice ownership.
