About My Clients
I provide individual as well as couples counseling services, with a particular focus on working with those within the LGBTQ+ community. I work with those going through depression, anxiety, difficult life changes, ADHD, and, in particular, spiritual trauma, as well as other mental health concerns. I believe that, through collaboration, I can help provide the tools to overcome the challenges that my clients bring forward.
My Background and Approach
Although grounded in REBT, I take an integrative approach to counseling that varies based on client needs and goals. I also draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills, and Narrative Therapy. For couples counseling, I also have training in the Gottman method. My approach allows for short-term action steps to take place alongside insight-oriented approaches for long-term growth.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Due to my own history of working through spiritual abuse and trauma because of sexual orientation, I believe the core to counseling is to empower the client to help them find their voice, which looks different from client to client. Many counselors use the therapeutic alliance to "push" a client toward one particular way of being, and offer value judgements if one's particular expression of identity is different from their own. I believe my job is to help the client get the tools they need to work toward their goals and unlearn maladaptive beliefs about themselves, others, and the world that may be hindering their growth.
