Accepting Clients

Hi, I'm Josh! I specialize in treating teen and adult anxiety and trauma-related disorders, such as OCD, Panic Disorder, PTSD, and more.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York, NY

About My Clients

Often, when I first meet with a client, they are living with brains and bodies that have overactive "alarm bell systems." They spend a lot of time ruminating or obsessing, chewing on past experiences or worrying about the future, engaging in compulsions like repeatedly checking for safety or asking for reassurance, avoiding or procrastinating important tasks or situations. Their appetite, sleep cycle, ability to focus are often impaired too.

My Background and Approach

I have extensive and high quality experience and training: I was a member of the 2021-2022 DBT Training Program and Lab at Columbia University, I completed my advanced clinical internship at Columbia's academic-teaching hospital where I had the opportunity to learn from and be supervised by expert therapists and researchers, and, before opening my own practice, I was a therapist at one of NYC's most reputable agencies that focused on anxiety-spectrum disorders. Additionally, I have provided clinical supervision and training to other therapists. I have completed advanced trainings in evidence-based modalities including CBT, DBT, ERP, ACT, EMDR, and more. So, I am confident in my expertise and ability to help people make progress on their goals and to recover from mental health conditions. However, I also bring my own authentic self to therapy sessions - I'm a real person navigating the ups and downs of life too. It is important to me to respect your entire self and your journey.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I've done a lot of personal work on understanding my own positionality and the ways in which socialization has shaped who I am. I'm committed to providing culturally competent care. It's important to be to also be able to help clients navigate their own identities in addition to recovering from mental health symptoms. Spirituality has been an important part of my experience. I was raised in a conservative, traditional Christian household, have had experience with both Protestant denominations and Catholicism, have found wisdom and healing in Buddhist and Earth-based spirituality, and would currently describe myself as agnostic. I've worked with clients from a broad range of religious and spiritual and secular backgrounds, including those recovering from trauma and stress related to their religious experiences. I'm a believer in practices that help people reconnect with their bodies, such as yoga and mindfulness-based practices.
