About My Clients
Many of the settings I've worked, a therapist has to be able to work with any and everyone. I work best with individuals who are ready to roll up their sleeves and get down to work. Many are facing a new challenge in their life they are struggling with or have something from their past they ready to put behind them.
My Background and Approach
I have been working with people as a social worker since 1994. Early on I worked hospital and residential settings. In 2008 I began working in private practice. Historically, I have focused on working in small towns and rural areas with people of all ages and backgrounds. I am warm, caring, and down to earth. I believe the therapeutic process begins where you are and going from there. I think the therapeutic relationship is often more important than the approach. Thus, I begin focusing on the working relationship early on in the process. I like to use a combination of therapeutic approaches ranging from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Schema, Narrative, etc. I'm not set on using any specific approach instead I strive to matching it to the individual's needs and goals.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Former patients and colleagues have labeled me as an old soul, and I suspect they are correct. Having previously been a caregiver I am very interested in healthy aging through the stages of life. Another interest of mine is other cultures whether this is regional, religious, or any other groups actually. I curious about their traditions, values, cuisine, or any other factors that make them unique.
