About My Clients

Most of my clients are looking to process their emotions and life experiences so they can move into the next stage of their lives. Yet even after reading self-help books, journaling, and kissed a prayer up to the universe, it can still feel difficult to create real movement. Sometimes, when you’re stuck in familiar patterns, you need someone to hold up a mirror. And if you dare to dream a little, or a lot, bigger, you might need someone to hold your hand as you step onto new ground.

My Background and Approach

My professional journey began with volunteering in various LGBTQ organizations, including work with queer youth, people affected by or living with HIV, outreach programs, and crisis counseling. Years of working as a waiter and bartender confirmed that I wanted to serve people—but in a more meaningful way. As a queer person of color, I could sense the presence of oppression but struggled to name or understand how it affected me. To find the language and gain clarity, I pursued an education in social work, earning both a bachelor's and a master's degree. Through this education, I was able to honor parts of my experience and spirit that had developed ways to protect myself from dominant populations. I also discovered compassion and forgiveness for myself. As a therapist, my goal is to use both my education and personal experience to help other marginalized people find the same compassion and forgiveness.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

While there are several modalities that I like to use in practice, it is most important to me to be present and hold space for those seeking therapy. There can be few opportunities in this fast life to be heard and feel like you're not being a burden. Whether someone chooses to tell their story with words or silence, it will be heard. As a therapist who wants to minimize the power dynamic, I like to be think that I am just as accountable as the client is. I believe that the client-therapist relationship is an ideal place to practice how you'd like to be out in the world. If you would like practice setting boundaries, be more assertive, practice being more articulate, more intentional, you can practice that in session without the worry that you might fail.
