Solution focused therapy is a type of therapy where we look at problems and solutions -- it sounds simple, right? In this special type of therapy, we focus on solutions instead of problems. We build goals around solutions and work toward achieving small, frequent goals, to help us reach our broader, bigger goals over time.

Chronic pain is something that has huge effects on our mental health. When we are in pain, our whole world comes to a stop. We can’t move, can’t focus, can’t be ourselves. This is something I know, as a therapist – but also as a person. I have lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. These autoimmune diseases put me right there with you. I know what it’s like to have a chronic illness, and can use this firsthand experience to help you cope with your pain.

Grief and loss are some of the most painful processes we endure throughout our lives. We might think grief sounds simple, but there are actually many different types of grief. As a MSW student, I received specialized training on grief and loss to use with patients in my practice. I plan to continue this education and to receive a specialized grief counselor certification.

As a therapist, I have received specialized training on trauma and how to treat it. Beginning in my MSW program at the University of Southern California, and continuing into my practice as a psychotherapist. I have received training in EMDR, a type of therapy proven to be effective with trauma patients.

Cognitive behavioral therapy is a special type of therapy where we work on changing negative thoughts and beliefs. In the context of trauma, one of the consequences of trauma tends to be negative core beliefs – such as: I am not good enough, I’m worthless, I should have done something. In therapy, we work on addressing those negative core beliefs, which are centered around self-worth, guilt, and fear – and work on changing them. I am good enough, I am worthy, I did what I could.

Dialectical behavioral therapy is a special type of therapy where we work on changing negative and harmful behaviors and adjust them. We practice replacing unhealthy behaviors with healthy behaviors and routines.
