About My Clients

Prioritizing yourself can be even tough. I know you're putting in this huge effort, and I will be there to put in mine. I have experience in providing therapy for adults dealing with depression, anxiety, addiction, trauma, and more. I also help adults through life changes, gender and sexual identity issues, and interpersonal relationships. Together, we'll identify your strengths, limits, and challenges to help you achieve your goals—our goals. You don't have to be alone; let's work together!

My Background and Approach

I am a resident working toward independent licensure in Virginia. In the past, I've worked with adult clients struggling with addiction to opioids and alcohol in an intensive outpatient setting. More recently, I've worked with emerging and young adults struggling with depression, anxiety, suicide, self-harm, and trauma and participated in related trainings. Not every therapeutic approach works for every single person. It might take some trial and error to see what fits best for any individual or situation you're going through. We will start with an intake process which allows us to get to know each other—you get to share what your goal for therapy might be, and I can explain more specifically what I can do, and we can both make a decision together about this plan. My goal is for both of us to understand what makes you think or act the way you do. Through this process, we will dive deep into what emotions you might be feeling without the pressure of trying to name them right away.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I grew up in a Cambodian household and am familiar with Theravada Buddhist practices. At this time in my life, I do not associate myself with any particular religion and consider myself atheist. However, I am not anti-religion and would be interested in understanding more about my clients' belief system and/or religious beliefs. I am a gay man and appreciate most things in a rainbow color scheme (but I also like my millennial grey). I am not currently active in any LGBTQ+ organizations but I've volunteered with the Trevor Project in the past. My Asian-American identity is important to me. Being an adult child of Cambodian refugees, I feel more equipped to understand clients who are children of immigrants or refugees. I am understanding of the "third culture" experience while aware of stark differences in experiences between ethnic groups. I have previously been heavily involved in the AAPI community and continue to keep up with AAPI related news.
