About My Clients
Do you ever feel like you're living life for someone else, squished in a box - just because someone told you so? Yeah, you know the feeling! My goal is to help you find authenticity and confidence to live the life you want. We will process past trauma, learn to love yourself again, see the world differently, learn to love life again, explore how to cope with anxiety, improve communication skills, but most importantly, find yourself again.
My Background and Approach
Wow, this is a really hard question! As I type and retype this... And retype it AGAIN! I realize that my approach is simply person-centered. Which feels like a copout to say, but I believe that each person needs an approach that views them as a person, a person who is the master of their own life, and a person who needs interventions and individualized as them. I really focus on ACT. I focus on radically accepting the world as it is. And putting that energy and attention into the things that matter. Focusing on honoring your values, achieving goals, making choices you are confident about, with whom you care about. Because it's YOUR life, and YOU get to write your own book (ACT would say, drive the bus). I see things through a queer theory lens, conflict theory lens, and systems theory. Sometimes there are no "solutions" to life's problems, and it's nice to just tell your story to someone and just be heard, get some validation that things just suck, and maybe get a new perspective.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
When I was a young kid, I would spend a week with my paternal grandma in Nebraska at "The farmhouse." She told me, "I want you to remember that all people were created equal, nobody is better than anyone else." Fast forward a year or two, and we accompanied my maternal grandma to an outing where we picketed Capitol Hill in Denver, fighting for my aunt with Down syndrome to get a raise to $2 an hour. So I guess I've always been a social worker. I've always believed in equal rights and equity! Each person's intersectionality (fancy word for differences) should be embraced and seen as a strength instead of a deficit. I'm very active in the LGBTQ+ community in Small Lake City! I love cat puns! I love the outdoors, and Red Rock Therapy! I love making and experiencing art! I like to dance! I'm unconventional, quirky, and have a sailor's mouth (don't tell my mom). )'(
