About My Clients
Anxiety and depression often result from struggles with self-esteem, setting boundaries, and lack of genuine intimacy with our communities, our partner(s), and ourselves. I am best at supporting folks on the fringe of social norms and have clinical experience with artists, queer folx, and non-traditional relationships. Re-connection work can be especially powerful for male-identified individuals who have been socialized to detach from their feelings and avoid intimate contact with others.
My Background and Approach
I came of age in punk and skateboard culture and have worked in the art world, as a bicycle mechanic, and as an entrepreneur. Those experiences and values (non/anti-normative, DIY, community-oriented) influence my work as a therapist. I came to counseling first as a client in the midst of a stressful period involving the near-simultaneous dissolution of my marriage and business partnership. Though I initially resisted the idea of being in therapy, I eventually came to see it as a powerful gift. It now brings me great joy to offer this gift in turn. Forming deep connections with others while remaining true to ourselves is essential to healing. I will model this throughout our time together by bringing my authentic self into each session, talking with you frankly and openly, and drawing out your fullness and complexity. I work from a place of theoretical integration, which is to say, there are many roads to the same destination. Please contact me if you think we might be a good fit.
