My Background and Approach
At MPC, we practice a strengths-based and solution-focused form of counseling. Strengths-based counseling seeks to empower the individual to build on the resilience that they already have. Solution-focused approaches are generally rooted in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and take a present day look at real world challenges the client is facing. Together, these approaches can be used to create new and lasting ways to cope with challenges from stress, depression, anxiety and trauma. The theory behind taking a strengths-based approach is to draw out and expand core elements of healthy coping and apply them to daily life.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I have been working in the mental health field since 2009. During that time I have had the pleasure to work with a variety of client populations that include intensive residential, school-based, and outpatient counseling serving youth and adult populations with psychosocial challenges as well as substance use disorders. I work with adults who are having challenges with stress, burnout, anxiety and depression as well as substance use disorders. I have a particular focus on men’s issues such as career, family and fatherhood. I identify as a humanistically oriented counselor who truly believes in the partnership model of counseling. My primary treatment methods are a Person-Centered approach with supplemental structure of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy.
