I created and implemented the biofeedback program at Boston University's Behavioral Medicine. Biofeedback is a treatment modality in which you use lots of relaxation techniques while a monitor shows you what's happening in your body--much like a good coach or tutor provides you with immediate feedback. Though I don't currently have biofeedback equipment, I still have a toolbox full of anxiety-reduction techniques for our work.

Depression can stem from so many places--my PhD training provided me with the training necessary to assess and plan a treatment tailored to your needs. We'll examine biological, psychological, social, and political sources of your depression and seek the best path for you.

I believe that men have been privileged in many ways. However, men often receive little or no modeling or training in emotion regulation, communication, intimacy, or grief. I believe that the wellbeing of men is critically important and woefully underprovided. If you believe that your particular issues are influenced by your maleness, let's talk.

Psychodynamic therapy explores how past experiences and unconscious patterns shape present emotions and relationships. It focuses on emotional expression, defenses, recurring themes, and early development. By using the therapy relationship and exploring one’s wishes/fantasies, this approach fosters deeper self-understanding and lasting personal change. I've completed fellowships at psychodynamic counseling centers and analytic institutes and have worked this way for over a decade.

Men and women aren't that inherently different--we all need relationships, feel pain, do things that confuse ourselves--but they sure are raised differently. There are many more female therapists than male ones, and my own identity enables me to understand some of the experiences that are unique to the issues that tend to bother men most. Rogerian, or client-centered, therapy is based on the idea that people naturally move toward growth when they feel genuinely understood and accepted. The therapist offers empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard, creating a safe space for clients to explore their experiences without judgment. This approach helps clients trust their own inner wisdom and develop a stronger sense of self. This was the first approach in which I trained and undergirds my posture towards all patients.

Existential therapy helps people explore the deeper questions of life,:(1) meaning, (2) freedom, (3) responsibility, & (4) mortality, and how these shape their choices and emotional experience. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, it invites reflection on what it means to live authentically and align one’s actions with personal values. The goal is greater self-awareness, purpose, and a sense of agency in facing life’s uncertainties. This grounds my treatment approach towards a purposeful life.
