During my training I sought opportunities to co-lead DBT groups because I knew that the tools within would be helpful for anyone. Though I no longer lead official DBT groups, the skills that I learned as a leader (and can thus provide to you) are enormously helpful for regulating distressing emotions--anger, anxiety, sadness, and the like.
Psychodynamic therapy is a type of therapy that looks for patterns that aren't serving you well. We'll look for patterns in your relationships, patterns within your family, and even patterns during therapy which can give us insight about what's happening. I recently completed a postgraduate fellowship at the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute (the largest psychoanalytic institute in the US) to better understand the complicated dynamics that inform all our lives.
I believe that men have been privileged in many ways. However, we have often received little or no modeling or training in emotion regulation, communication, intimacy, or grief. I adamently believe that the wellbeing of men is critically important and woefully underprovided. If you believe that your particular issues are highly influenced by your maleness, let's talk.
I created and implemented the biofeedback program at Boston University's Behavioral Medicine. Biofeedback is a treatment modality in which you use lots of relaxation techniques while a monitor shows you what's happening in your body--much like a good coach or tutor provides you with immediate feedback. Though I don't currently have biofeedback equipment, I still have a toolbox full of anxiety-reduction techniques for our work.
Depression can stem from so many places--my PhD training provided me with the training necessary to assess and plan a treatment tailored to your needs. We'll examine biological, psychological, social, and political sources of your depression and seek the best path for you.
