About My Clients
Young people are amazing but parenting them is not always the most fun. Childhood is a time for growth, learning, and joy, but can also be a time of fear, anger, emotional outbursts, and anxiety. In an increasingly complex world, children are facing a multitude of challenges that impact their mental and emotional health. If you child is struggling with emotional/behavior regulation, anxiety, poor self esteem, peer/sibling conflict, communication challenges, and/or impulse control, help is here.
My Background and Approach
I hold an Education Specialist degree in School Psychology and Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I specialize in working with youth and their families on issues related to behavior, developmental concerns, communication, and challenges related to neurodivergence including ASD and ADHD.I have been a source of support and guidance for hundreds of kids, teens, and their families for 15 years in public schools, homes, behavior centers, and foster/group homes to help address challenges with behavior, self esteem, social skills, conflict, communication and more. Starting counseling can be scary. As a longtime ally for kids, teens, young adults, and families struggling with life challenges, I aim to make the process of counseling as supportive and comfortable as possible. I will work collaboratively with you, your child, and family to work towards goals that honor their unique needs.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that all young people are capable of doing great things and negative behaviors are ways youth communicate that they need help and guidance. Childhood is the most important time of life to begin treating mental health challenges big and small, so young people can develop into well adjusted and productive adults. I also believe every parent/caregiver is doing their best to support their children and the fact that you are here looking for support proves it! I believe strongly in social and systemic justice and realize how the environments and systems (society, school, social, family, etc.) in which we live strongly impact our mental health. I also believe that counseling should be fun and engaging and that humor, games, and play are great for all ages of client to feel safe and comfortable. The most important element of any counseling experience is the relationship between counselor and client and this approach helps facilitate a strong rapport and positive change.
