My Background and Approach

Counseling has shown to improve self esteem, self acceptance, change self defeating behavior, regulate emotions, decrease symptoms of depression, anxiety, other mental health symptoms, and heal from trauma. It can increase interpersonal relationships and facilitate the development of skills and techniques to achieve a more fulfilling life. I do my best to create a safe, inviting, and non-judgemental, environment. As a counselor I follow a code of Ethics that are the foundations of my practice; Autonomy, Justice, Beneficence, Nonmaleficence, and Fidelity. I practice with a humanistic, person centered approach. My treatment methods utilized are Evidence-Based therapies learned through training and 10 years of experience. We will identify and collaborate the best therapeutic technique that will assist you in achieving your identified goals. Counseling is a partnership that requires trust, honesty, communication and these are all a part of building a healthy therapeutic relationship.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

John has 10 years of counseling experience facilitating groups and individual counseling services. Currently he is a Outreach Counselor for MUSC’s National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center (NCVC), providing trauma-counseling services using evidence-based counseling therapies. John also facilitates the Survivors of Homicide Support Group, a collaborative effort between NCVC and Charleston County Sherriff’s Office. His favorite part of the job is facilitating a support group where he and survivors make lifelong connections with each other and receive the care and compassion they deserve. I am currently completing my training as a counselor supervisor, where I provide professional supervision to new counselors entering the field of mental health. As a professional I frequently collaborate with other professionals and community partners to provide the best care for the clients I work with.
