About My Clients
I work with adults of all ages, genders, sexual identities, backgrounds, religions, and abilities. Many clients come to me feeling frustrated or unseen from past therapy experiences. They may appear capable and in control, high functioning to an extent, but inside, anxiety and overwhelm are ever-present. Trauma or childhood emotional neglect are the norm. What else do they all have in common? Feeling bewildered and wounded by the current state of our world!
My Approach to Helping
Sessions with me are warm, inclusive, and identity-affirming. Regardless of the approach we take (EMDR isn't the right fit for everyone), I work from a trauma-informed lens, exploring events in your life to untangle sticky issues. Clients feel respected and safe doing deep emotional work, met with understanding, not criticism. This is my second career, so I bring decades of life experience into the session space. I understand grief, relationship failures, family members struggling with addiction, and the question of "what else can possibly happen this year?" Outside of work, I love thrifting and drinking coffee in Houston and Austin with my friends and adult kids. When my introvert self gets loud, I unwind by rewatching shows like What We Do in the Shadows, Fleabag, and Altered Carbon.
My Values as a Therapist
My beliefs and causes shape who I am as a clinician. I taught at a rural, Hispanic serving institution for over 30 years, and was the LGBTQ+ student faculty sponsor for almost a decade. This didn’t automatically make me an ideal ally to every marginalized group, but it did fundamentally change how I view my privilege. I am passionate about human rights and consistently challenge my own beliefs. I welcome and serve clients from all backgrounds, but I'm progressive and liberal myself. Therapy cannot solve authoritarianism, racism, homophobia or transphobia; however, it should be dedicated to resisting them. Policy Note: I do NOT use AI to record therapy sessions for note-taking or transcription.
