About My Clients
I have a heart for those who’ve spent years in survival mode—strong, self-reliant individuals who feel drained, unseen, and unsupported. My clients often carry deep exhaustion from navigating life without a support system, while facing family conflict, emotional neglect, and isolation. They may have reached out for help in the past, only to feel dismissed, misunderstood, or minimized. I offer a space where burdens can be laid down, pain can be processed, and where anger is welcomed.
My Background and Approach
I have an M.Ed in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and am a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) in North Carolina. I’m passionate about working with diverse individuals, especially those navigating trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, life transitions, abandonment, and the weight of feeling the world is on their shoulders. I’ve received training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a structured approach that helps clients reprocess trauma and reduce the emotional impact of distressing memories. I draw on Reality Therapy to explore the link between actions and unmet needs, supporting clients in making intentional choices aligned with their values. I also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to examine how thoughts and emotions influence behavior and well-being. Additionally, I use Narrative Therapy to help clients reflect on their stories and view problems as external influences.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that a counselor's role is not to impose their beliefs, but to understand each client’s unique experience through the lens of their intersectionality. I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals from various religious backgrounds, integrating faith into the therapeutic process when it holds meaning for the client. While the counseling field is still largely represented by white heterosexual women, I recognize how this lack of representation can be a barrier for many seeking support. In my effort to be an ally and advocate, I minored in Gender Studies, where I explored queer literature, trans history, and feminism from diverse, non-white perspectives. I’m originally from Mississippi—a place often viewed through a negative or racist lens—but I’ve seen its diversity firsthand and value the richness of those experiences. Coming from a low-income background and having lived through events like Hurricane Katrina has also shaped my empathy.
