About My Clients

I serve clients interested in healing their presenting concerns with a soulful approach. A soulful approach allows the client to feel and explore their inner world. The client gains emotional insight by observing aspects of personality, patterns of behavior, the use of language, and creative imagination. Our bodies have an inherent ability to heal themselves. Our minds do, too. All clients can tap into their own healing, and with counsel, cultivate their strengths and personhood.

My Background and Approach

Joaquin is a counselor, registered as a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern (LPC Intern) with the State of Oregon. He graduated from the Portland State University CACREP-accredited Master's program in counseling. Joaquin participated in additional training at the PSU Counseling Clinic and at William Temple House. His private practice is located in the historic district of Beaverton, Oregon, in Theel House. Joaquin is under the clinical supervision of Deanna Cor, PhD, LPC, and he is a National Certified Counselor (NCC), certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). Joaquin is a Jungian-existential oriented counselor. He is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), an affiliate of Existential-Humanistic Northwest Professional Organization (EHN), and a member of the Oregon Friends of C.G. Jung. Joaquin managed professional leadership programs for grassroots and established Latino leaders. He is Mexican American, bicultural, and bilingual.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Often times, clients enter counseling because they feel there is something wrong with them that needs to be fixed. However, there is nothing wrong. Our symptoms are not markers of failure or brokenness, they are expressions of need. Emotional duress and mental stress are a doorway or a "calling" for new behaviors and outlooks. When clients work with awareness, focus, and gentle persistence, life improves. Our bodies have an inherent ability to heal themselves. Our minds do, too. Counseling provides a time to understand our state of mind, affect, or mood. Counseling offers a time to be seen and listened to with undivided attention, commitment, and care. Counseling creates a time for change.
