About My Clients
Is something is causing you distress and interfering or preventing you from doing what you want or need to do? Counseling and therapy can be beneficial for anyone struggling with anxiety, depression, high stress, trauma, relationship conflict, burn out, or difficulty coping with life transitions. Whether you have previously worked with a therapist or if this is your first experience with counseling, I can help you make the changes you desire to make life good!
My Background and Approach
Every interaction begins with meeting clients where they are in life so that I can individualize how we work together to best meet your needs. I am trained in multiple theoretical modalities, giving me a good "tool box" to use with clients. This is a collaborative effort between the client and therapist. Most of my clients have experienced great results when we start with Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) followed by Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) strategies. When we experience very stressful, painful or frightening events or situations that are difficult to cope with or out of our control, it can trigger a trauma-response. ART helps “erase and replace” these negative reactions with a more positive, adaptive response. In CBT, we will work to pinpoint habits, beliefs, thoughts and behaviors that are no longer serving you and replace them with helpful thoughts and behaviors. Clients learn how to best help themselves to make life good!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
The human brain has an amazing capacity to continue learning, developing and adapting to change (this is called neuroplasticity!) Sometimes, however, our brains get stuck in negative patterns or thinking. As our emotional reaction gets more intense, our thinking ability decreases. I work with clients to regulate those emotional reactions in order to optimize their thinking. This is one reason I am passionate about working with individuals experiencing dyslexia, ADHD and other learning disorders.
