About My Clients
Many of my clients struggle with disordered eating and body image concerns, including anorexia, orthorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder. A large number of my clients have obsessive compulsive disorder and/or anxiety, including generalized anxiety or social anxiety. Trauma is often a part of the story. I am passionate about meeting clients where they are helping them pursue a life aligned with their values.
My Background and Approach
I graduated with my BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and my MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Wake Forest University. I work from Humanistic, Cognitive-Behavioral (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and/or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) treatment modalities while remaining flexible to adapt to each individual’s unique needs. I received additional training in CBT and DBT techniques and completed training in OCD treatment through Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts General Hospital Psychiatry Academy, and I am trained in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). I also am a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS) through the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP) with over 2,000 hours of experience, extensive coursework training, and 40 hours of supervision.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My faith is extremely important to me, and my relationship with God has helped me find peace during difficult times, including my son's health diagnosis and my sister's death from cancer. I counsel through a Biblical perspective because I know God does not want you to stay trapped in your anxiety or grief. I want to help you live a life with not only has less suffering but also one full of deep faith and joyful living. That being said, I welcome all clients and integrate religion only at the client's request.
