About My Clients
I work with people that are facing a difficult decision or problem, something that they can't seem to work out on their own. This could be something that came up recently or a longstanding issue. They have been to therapy before but felt too surface-level; they might say "we didn't really get anywhere, we just seemed to talk about the same things." My clients are intellectual, connecting with their emotions when they need to, but ultimately they want to make some kind of change in their lives.
My Background and Approach
I have been working in mental health for close to 15 years in a variety of settings including eating disorder treatment (IOP / PHP), managed healthcare, and private practice. Currently, I am the owner and director of Embrace Therapy located in Midtown Sacramento. My specialties include infidelity & betrayal, divorce & separation, sex & intimacy, eating disorders & body image, problems with self-worth & self-esteem, phase of life challenges, and high stress professions and their impact on relationships. I primarily use Narrative Therapy, DBT, and CBT. Narrative Therapy is the "why" - it helps explore the narratives, or stories, we tell ourselves to make sense of our experiences and then create new stories to look at those experiences from different angles. DBT and CBT are the "how" - offering practical tools to manage emotions, shift thinking, and implement healthier behaviors. I also value continued education and regularly seek out trainings to support my work with clients.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
What is most important to me as a therapist is helping people create change. I believe that most people come to therapy because they want something to be different in their lives. Sometimes you know what that is and sometimes you don’t, but either way I want to help you figure it out. My clients would describe me as supportive but direct. I don’t stay at the surface and I won’t shy away from calling things out. My clients would say that I challenge them to look at their situation and themselves from different perspectives. When you can think about things differently, you create space to move in a new direction, helping you through seemingly impossible situations.
