About My Clients
Many of the people I work with struggle with boundaries. Feeling like you can't say "no" when you want to is a really awful experience. I help clients explore their pattern of behavior, articulate their underlying needs and fears, and practice healthy boundary-setting in a supportive environment so they can take what they've learned and apply it to their lives.
My Background and Approach
As a kid, I was the one everybody brought their problems to, but it wasn't until my late-twenties, sitting across from my own therapist, that I started to consider the possibility of doing this work. Therapy helped me to figure myself out, and I want to help others do the same. I have experience working with adults who tend to be really hard on themselves. All that pressure can really erode self-esteem, so I provide an intentional space to better understand what's at play so my clients can get out from under the weight of their inner critics and start to see themselves with more clarity and nuance. I am passionate about supporting my clients in sticking up for themselves and their needs. My approach is warm, collaborative, and affirming.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that we are shaped by our surroundings, and, for many of us, that meant trying to fit in. Trying to go with the flow of our family or culture is an important, adaptive strategy for survival, but there are also consequences to the psyche of having to tamp down our full, vibrant selves. I believe that we can regain connection with parts of us that we felt were too weird, wacky, or controversial to truly claim earlier in our life. I believe we can greet ourselves as we are and delight in our wholeness.
