Our emotions are often really helpful "signals" for how safe or unsafe we are in the world. However there are times when our emotional signals get set too high, so that our brains and bodies keep setting off the alarm for "danger" at unhelpful, unwarranted times. I work with clients using CBT, DBT and ACT principles to develop more effective tool for managing anxiety and other strong emotions as well as well as help people develop more helpful beliefs and behaviors around their anxiety.
Life transitions can be exciting, scary, sad, and unpredictable. Sometimes they bring out new challenges, bad habits we've done in the past, strong emotions, and leave you feeling the need for additional support to navigate. Therapy is a safe place to get support, talk through the particular challenges, learn better ways to cope with your emotions, as well as understand how your beliefs and behaviors play a role in how well you find your way through times of change.
I have over a decade of experience treating alcohol and other substance use disorders. I support people who are looking to stop using altogether as well as people who are looking to develop a healthier relationship with alcohol or another substance such as marijuana. I take a non-judgmental stance to help people meet their own personal goals around their use.
