About My Clients
Therapy can be a great time to: learn reliable coping skills for anxiety and OCD, identify and change unhealthy relationship patterns, rebuild your emotional connection with your partner, heal from unprocessed trauma, stop choosing people who don’t choose you, find your voice, and learn how to set boundaries.
My Background and Approach
I earned an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Texas. I’ve provided counseling in a variety of settings which include: private practice, a non-profit agency for survivors of intimate partner violence, an outpatient mental health/substance abuse hospital, and a university counseling clinic.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
"When we can see ourselves as we truly are and accept ourselves, we build the necessary foundation for self-love"- bell hooks Self-love as a member of a marginalized community is radical. It is a daily fight, a never ending commitment. Some days we have it in us, and some days we must simply survive. Now, more than ever, we NEED safe spaces. Our relationships (romantic or platonic) must give us permission and encouragement to see and accept ourselves. I see the therapy room as a place for my clients to practice this self-acceptance. That means being honest and gentle. Attachment research shows that when people are secure within themselves and have a small handful of safe, secure relationships, they can handle just about anything. I believe this so much that I will constantly draw your attention back to how you are treating yourself and how you are being treated.
